perhaps the most famous name in racing today. He is regarded by many as
the greatest race car driver of all time. He begin his motorsports
career in 1959 racing stock car. In
1964he entered his first Indy Car event and over his career in Indy Cars
he took the checkered flag 52 times.He was a four-time Indy Cars
National Champion, he won the Daytona 500, he captured the Formula One
world Championship in 1978, he was named the first Driver of the Year,
in 1967 and Drive of the Quarter Century in 1992. Mario is the first
driver in the history of motorsports to win Indy Car races in four
decades and professional auto races in five decades. It is no wonder
that last year the Associated Press named this racecar driving legend
